Works cross functionally with scientists and engineers to develop testing protocols for suitability of materials for development and on-market solutions.
Generates formal reports and enters data into a database of all chemical compatibility test results for use with other projects throughout the organization.
Follows good laboratory practices, safety procedures, and maintains a lab notebook.
Works independently on test fixtures using microcontrollers or software to interface with valves, pumps, and other hardware as needed for custom experiments.
Uses statistics for hypothesis testing and data analysis to generate conclusive evidence of material compatibility.
Participate in material failure analysis investigations including finding root cause and proposed material solutions.
Familiarity with general laboratory instrumentation: auto-pipette, calipers, digital balance, stir plates, ovens, mechanical property measurements using Universal Tester for tensile and compressive strengths, pH meter, UV-Vis, GC-MS, conductivity, and develops custom measurements and testing procedures as needed, and validates those testing procedures.
Receives general directions, and guidance to aid in the performance of daily duties and tasks.
Knowledge, Skill or Ability
Basic knowledge of common and specialized materials; thermoplastics, metals, coatings, composites, elastomers, fluoropolymers, adhesives etc. used within the industry for fluidics systems.
General Chemistry and Engineering knowledge of materials, as well as knowledge of polymer science and corrosion.
Familiarity with ISO/ASTM standard methods for evaluating materials and chemical compatibility.
Ability to independently operate analytical instruments and analyze data with some guidance.
Ability to apply advanced technical writing skills to produce reports and documents.
Ability to work with liquid and solid chemicals to prepare complex formulations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, Minitab, and LabView.
Ability to work collaboratively across complex projects with ambitious milestones in high pressure circumstances.
Bachelor's Degree BS in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Experience with industry implementation of standardized test methods and product processing/handling (ASTM, USP, IEC, ISO for example).
